German horse, Le Roi and Cox Plate place getter, Silent Achiever were notable withdrawals from next Tuesday’s $6.2 million Melbourne Cup after second declarations were taken yesterday.
However, the non-appearance of Silent Achiever was to be expected, as trainer Roger James had always indicated the Cox Plate and not the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups were the four‑year‑old’s main mission.
Over at Lindsay Park in South Australia, trainer Tony McEvoy decided not to pay up for former German galloper Le Roi.
McEvoy also indicated that he could not be happier with his Melbourne Cup hopeful Big Memory since his eye-catching performance in the Caulfield Cup.
The Melbourne Cup race will be held at 5pm next Tuesday.
