Jonathan Thurston and Billy Slater were the Queensland assassins called back for one final mission and they delivered when all looked lost, sealing an astonishing come from behind 18 16 win against the NSW Blues in State of Origin Game 2.

The ageing Maroons looked shot to bits when the Blues raced out to a 16 6 lead with two quick tries midway through the first half, but the Blues were held scoreless in the second half.

Thurston slotted a conversion after Dane Gagai had locked the scores up at 16 16 with three minutes to play.

NSW had appeared all over Queensland for most of the contest, but in the blink of an eye, the Maroons pounced to snatch a memorable win.

NSW had defeated Queensland 28 4 in State of Origin game 1, meanwhile, the two team will meet for the final game on the 12th of next month at 10pm.
