Vodafone Flying Fijians captain Akapusi Qera is closing in on equalling Greg Smith’s record with the most number of times a player has captained the national team in a test match.
Qera has captained the Flying Fijians in 28 matches while Smith has a record of leading the national team 30 times with 17 wins and 13 losses.
Qera has played 57 tests for the Flying Fijians but is expected to equal this record when they play Tonga and Samoa at the Pacific Nations Cup.
Meanwhile coach John McKee is expecting a more structured and disciplined team as they prepare to face Tonga.
McKee says they are well aware that the 2019 Rugby World Cup spot is on the line and the challenge is to prepare accordingly.
Last year, Fiji beat Tonga 23-18 at the ANZ Stadium.
The Flying Fijians will fly out to Nuku’alofa today.
They will take on Tonga at 2pm Saturday before travelling to Apia to take on Samoa next Saturday.
