Local based players likely to make Bati debut

Local based players Tikiko Noke and Ilisavani Jegesa are highly likely to make their debut for the Vodafone Fiji Bati after being named in the 18 member squad to prepare for their quarterfinal clash against Samoa in the Rugby League World Cup.

Noke, Jegesa and Kaliova Tani have not had a taste of the world cup but Coach Rick Stone has named them in the squad.

Stone said it is probably the first time that two pacific island nations have played in such a huge game and there will be plenty of emotion in the ground and no doubt the team that holds its composure will win.

Stone added Samoa is really strong and they were very solid in defence to beat the French 22-6 last week and they are probably favorites to win, but if they want to take that next step to the semifinals then the Bati will have to beat a quality team.

The Vodafone Fiji Bati will play Samoa at 4am tomorrow morning.

Fiji’s 18 man squad: Peni Botiki, Jayson Bukuya, Petero Civoniceva, Kane Evans, Aaron Groom, Ilisavani Jegesa, Marika Koroibete, Apisai Koroisau, Daryl Millard, Ryan Millard, Kevin Naiqama, Waisale Ligani Naiqama, Kaliova Nauqe, Alipate Noilea, Tikiko Noke, Vitale Junior Roqica, Ashton Sims, Tariq Sims, James Storer, Akuila Uate, Eloni Vunakece, Sisa Ledua Waqa, Semi Radradra Turagasoli Waqavatu.

Meanwhile, looking at the results this morning, Former Fiji Bati fullback Jarryd Hayne was in devastating form for Australia as he scored four tries to help the Kangaroos thrash USA 62-nil while England beat France 34 6.

New Zealand will now meet England in the first semifinal while Australia will await the winner of the Vodafone Fiji Bati and Samoa clash.
