“It is a huge role to fill and one of the key positions that can determine the outcome of the game.”
Those are the words of Flying Fijians backline coach Shannon Fraser on the halfback spot in the national side.
Fraser said that with former captain Mosese Rauluni not in the team, it will be a battle between Waisale Vatuvoka, Vitori Buatava and Nemia Kenatale.
There is still no word on Nikola Matawalu who performed outstandingly during the national trials.
He is not part of the squad at this stage and there are doubts on whether he can go to the World Cup due to the travel sanctions as he is part of the Fiji Navy.
He added that none of the players have played in the Rugby World Cup and the coaching staff is looking at each player’s strength to determine who will be their number one choice.
The Flying Fijians 50 member squad for the Pacific Nations Cup and World Cup will be named on Saturday while 28 players from within this squad will represent Fiji for the PNC and the rest will continue their preparation for the World Cup.
Fiji’s first PNC game is on the 2nd of next month against Samoa.
