Former World Cup winners France and Uruguay to battle for semifinal place

The first quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup will see two former World Champions battle for a place in the semifinal.

France won the World title in 1998 after beating Brazil 3-0 while Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2 in the first World Cup in 1930 and beat Brazil 2-1 in the 1950 World Cup.

In this World Cup France has scored 7 goals with 19-year-old Kylian Mbappé scoring three goals for them.

Other top players that will be key for France are Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid, Paul Pogba of Manchester United and Raphaël Varane of Real Madrid.

Uruguay on the other hand have scored also scored 7 goals at the World Cup with Edinson Cavani scoring three goals for them.

Other top players for Uruguay are Luis Suarez of Barcelona and Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid.

France will play Uruguay at 2am Saturday in the first quarterfinal.

In other quarterfinals, Brazil will play Belgium at 6am Saturday, England will play Sweden at 2am Sunday while hosts Russia will play Croatia at 6am Sunday.
