Fiji lose to NZ in opening OFC Nations Cup match

The Vodafone Fiji Soccer team has lost their opening match of the 2016 OFC Nations Cup with a 1-3 defeat to the New Zealand All Whites last night.

Captain Roy Krishna had an impressive game and was a constant threat throughout the whole match.

Krishna scored Fiji’s only goal in the match through a penalty for a foul on Setareki Hughes in the 45th minute.

The All Whites led two goals to one at halftime and their Captain Chris Wood wrapped up the win in the second half with a penalty.

Fiji was at times their own worst enemy in Port Moresby as the two goals scored by New Zealand in the first half was caused by a mix‑up in defence.

Meanwhile, Solomon Islands also got their OFC Nations Cup campaigns off to a perfect start with a 1-0 win over Vanuatu last night.

Fiji will next face Solomon Islands at 9pm next Tuesday.
