The Fiji Airways Drua have made history after defeating Queensland Country 36-26 in the final of Australia’s National Rugby Championships at Churchill Park in Lautoka this afternoon.
The Drua played their hearts out against Queensland Country as they came into the game with a record of losing three games against the defending champions.
Queensland Country made a strong start in the game scoring the first try of the match in the third minute but they were outclassed by a in-form Drua side.
The Drua scored five tries in the game, three in the first half and two in the second half.
Albert Tuisue scored a double in the match.
Eremasi Radrodro opened the Drua’s onslaught in the 10th minute followed by a try from Peni Naulago in the 20th minute to give the Drua a 12-5 lead.
Jordan Petaia scored a try for Queensland Country to level the scores 12-all in the 29th minute.
The Drua regained the lead through a Albert Tuisue try and went to the break with a 19-12 lead.
Albert Tuisue scored his second try at the start of the second half to extend the Drua’s lead to 26-12.
Filipo Daugunu also scored a try for Queensland Country in the 52nd minute.
Alivereti Veitokani scored the Drua’s fourth in the 60th minute while Efi Ma’afu crossed the try line in the 68th minute for Queensland Country.
Veitokani had the final say in the match to seal the win with a penalty conversion.
