Four families in Yalava, Tabia are struggling to access clean drinking water, with residents claiming their calls for assistance from the Water Authority of Fiji have gone unanswered.
61-year-old Uramila Wati says getting clean drinking water has become a daily struggle as the ongoing dry spell continues to affect the area due to El Nino.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Wati says she has to walk more than 300 metres to collect water because there is no water available at her home.
She says residents have requested water deliveries from the Water Authority of Fiji and were given a reference number, but they are still waiting for assistance.
Wati says they have also tried calling the Authority to follow up on their requests, but their calls have gone unanswered.
She says the situation has become increasingly difficult, with families now forced to rely on water from a well that she claims is unhygienic.
Wati says there are frogs in the well, but residents have no other choice but to use the water.
She is calling on the Water Authority of Fiji and the government to urgently assist the four affected families, saying they desperately need access to clean drinking water.
fijivillage News has sent questions to the Water Authority of Fiji.
