2016 National Games for Special and Unified Athletes begins today

Day 1 of the 2016 National Games for Special and Unified Athletes has kicked off at the ANZ Stadium with 24 special schools from around Fiji participating in the event.

Chair of the Organising Committee Robin Dayal says the first day of the competition will just consist of preliminary games.

Dayal says that the athletes results in the preliminary games will be ranked and those playing on the second day will compete according to these ranks.

Dayal says that there is also a Young Athletes Program that has been put in place for children below the age of 14.

He says that the program includes fun activities for children with special needs where they will learn to throw, kick, punch among other activities.

Meanwhile, Dayal says that the soccer games will consist of mixed teams in which able bodied participants will play alongside disabled students in each teams.

The soccer games will commence from this hour.

The first day of the 2016 National Games for Special and Unified Athletes will end at 4pm today.
