A four-day Seeds of Success training programme concluded at the facility yesterday, with Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru encouraging participants to use the opportunity to prepare for their return to their families and communities.
The programme is being delivered through a partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji Corrections Service.
It focuses on equipping young inmates with practical skills, confidence and knowledge that could assist them in finding employment or pursuing business opportunities after their release.
Saukuru told participants that their past mistakes do not have to determine their future and encouraged them to remain positive and make use of the opportunities available to them.
He says providing young inmates with the right skills can better prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship and their return to their communities.
Saukuru says the Ministry plans to continue taking training programmes into correctional facilities, to help prepare young people before they are released.
He says the Ministry also remains ready to support young people as they work towards rebuilding their lives and making a positive contribution to their communities.
