Taveuni resident alleges WAF officer questioned him over speaking to media
A Taveuni resident who previously raised concerns about water delivery charges and delays, says he was confronted by a Water Authority of Fiji staff member and questioned about why he had spoken to the media.

The resident, who has asked not to be named, says the alleged incident happened a few weeks ago when he went with his team to collect water.

He alleges a WAF technical officer approached him and asked why he had gone to the media about his concerns.

The resident says he told the officer that it was his right to raise his concerns publicly.

He says the officer initially spoke to him in what he describes as a rough manner, but later calmed down and told him that he needed to understand the challenges WAF was facing.

fijivillage News sent questions to WAF regarding the resident's allegations.

WAF says it will look into the matter and provide a response after making the necessary enquiries.

The resident says his broader concern is that people in local communities continue to struggle for water and have to repeatedly contact WAF for assistance.

He also claims he has observed what he believes are quicker water deliveries to some hotels and expatriates, while local residents face delays.

The resident says everyone should be treated fairly and customers with WAF meters should receive proper service.

His latest concerns follow an earlier issue raised with fijivillage News over a $792 payment for 20,000 litres of water.

WAF had explained that the $792 included the cost of the water and transportation to the resident's location, with four 5,000-litre deliveries required.

The resident had said he initially received only 10,000 litres despite paying the full amount and experienced difficulty arranging delivery of the remaining water.

At the time, WAF says its Taveuni team had been waiting for the resident to contact them when he was ready to receive the remaining 10,000 litres.

fijivillage News will update the story once WAF provides a further response following its enquiries into the resident's latest allegations.
