Since January this year, 217 people have turned to the Fiji Cancer Society after being diagnosed with cancer, a number that continues to rise year after year.
Fiji Cancer Society Board member Inoke Bainimarama highlighted this during their Annual 5KM Pink Walk at Albert Park this morning, saying the event is not just a walk but an important platform for raising awareness.
Bainimarama says this year’s theme is “Turning Awareness into Action”, and he acknowledged everyone who turned up to support the cause.
More than 270 people, young and old, braved the rainy Suva weather this morning to take part in the walk, while another 220 people participated simultaneously in Lautoka.

He says they were delighted to have sponsors and more than 15 organisations represented at the event, as well as students, including members of the Suva Grammar School First XV.
Bainimarama also acknowledged cancer survivors who participated in the walk, saying they are at the forefront of the Society’s advocacy work.
He says they want to use the month of October to draw greater attention to cancer and raise awareness, particularly about breast cancer.
