Overcoming self-doubt and learning to trust in her abilities has been a major part of 20-year-old Maria Paseka's journey as she prepares to represent the Vodafone Fiji Bulikula against defending champions New Zealand in their first Women's Rugby League World Cup match at 2.50pm this afternoon.
The St George Illawarra Dragons winger says she has faced challenges throughout her rugby league career, particularly when trying to prove herself and secure a place in the team.

She says her advice to young aspiring players is to never doubt themselves and always have faith in their abilities.
Born and raised in Wollongong, Australia, Paseka has family links to Nabouwalu, Ono, Kadavu and Suvavou.
She made her international debut for Fiji last year during the qualifying campaign that secured the Bulikula's place at the Rugby League World Cup.
Paseka says representing Fiji for the second time is a special experience, particularly as the team prepares to make history on the international stage.
She also revealed that Fiji Rugby Sevens legend Jerry Tuwai is one of her sporting inspirations because of his footwork and ability to compete against bigger and stronger players.
Paseka says Tuwai has shown that players do not need to be the biggest or strongest on the field to succeed.
The Fiji Bulikula will take on defending champions New Zealand at 2.05pm today in their historic Women's Rugby League World Cup debut.
