The trial of two men charged with one count each of aggravated robbery and one count each of theft has started before High Court Judge Justice, Salesi Temo.

It is alleged that Leone Rokomaraivalu and Peni Matairavula broke into a house of a businessman in Visama, Nausori and stole items worth $32,847 which included $9,000 cash, jewellery and mobile phones.

It is alleged that they then escaped in a van worth $12,000 which also belonged to the businessman.

The alleged incident happened on 28th May in 2015.

The first prosecution witness who is the owner of the house, Deo Kumar told the court that on 28th May, 2015 at about 2.30am he heard his wife shouting that there were thieves.

Kumar told the court that when he went to his wife’s room he saw eight people standing there with their faces covered with clothes.

The second prosecution witness who is Kumar’s wife, Anila Singh said that at around 2am she saw some shadows in her sitting room.

Singh told the court when she went to check, she saw some boys.

She said the boys were speaking in the I-taukei language.

Singh told the court that the boys held her hand and told her to be quiet.

She said she did not listen to them and called out to her husband after which the boys punched her and hit a pinchbar on her head.

She said she was rushed to the Wainibokasi Hospital where she received five stitches.

Both witnesses told the court that the stolen items have not be recovered.
