LTA re-engages Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre for pre‑shipment vehicle inspection

The Land Transport Authority has re‑engaged with Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre to carry out pre‑shipment vehicle inspection in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand before used vehicles are brought into Fiji from these countries.

LTA’s CEO, Samuel Simpson says this is designed to enhance the quality standards of used vehicles that are imported into Fiji.

He says with effect from 1st October 2019, an expanded scope of off‑shore inspection has been agreed.

For Australia and New Zealand, the inspections would start on  1st October this year and vehicles coming into the country without an inspection done by Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre after the 1st of November this year will not be registered unless the records show that the vehicle had left the country of import prior to 1st of October 2019.

Simpson says importers of used vehicles will have to pre‑determine the vehicle import timeline and receive Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre inspection prior to shipment in order to ensure that these deadlines are not violated.
