Students brought their favourite characters to life today in colourful homemade costumes as the school wrapped up its Library and Literacy Week with a character parade.
Library Week Coordinator and Year 3 teacher Mere Whippy says the programme is aimed at encouraging children to spend less time on their devices and become more involved with books.
She says many children are spending more time on gadgets, and the school wants them to understand that books remain an important source of knowledge while also encouraging imagination and creativity.
Throughout the week, students have taken part in activities including a book drive, poetry and storytelling.
Whippy says it has been encouraging to see students confidently sharing their ideas and becoming more involved with books.
She says parents have also played an important role in supporting the week’s activities.
The celebrations ended with today’s character parade, where students used their imagination to bring storybook characters to life.
Students were encouraged to create their costumes at home rather than buying them from shops, adding another element of creativity to the celebration.
