Vendors at the Ba Market are facing challenges following its temporary closure due to flooding caused by the recent Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Urmil.

Speaking to fijivillage News, some vendors say that they rely on the market for their daily income.

Some also say that they have already suffered losses due to damage to their crops and produce.

Meanwhile, the Ba Town Council team is carrying out clean-up operations across affected areas.

Special Administrator Moshim Khan says teams were deployed to clear debris and remove fallen branches first, while also assessing damage caused by heavy rain and strong winds.

Khan says the Council is not rushing the clean-up process, particularly at the Ba Market, as their priority is to reopen the market with the best hygiene.

He says that crews will also be working at night and that they are planning to reopen the market by Wednesday.

The Special Administrator adds that, in collaboration with the National Fire Authority and other municipal councils that were not affected, assistance will be provided for the clean-up efforts.
