Schools in the West to remain closed today

Schools in the West to remain closed today

All schools in the Western Division will remain closed today due to continuous heavy rain, which has resulted in flooding in many areas.

Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro says schools in the Central, Northern and Eastern Divisions will open today.

However, parents and guardians are advised that the final decision on whether to send their children to school rests with them, particularly for those living in flood-prone or affected areas where access roads, crossings, or transport routes may still be unsafe.

Parents and guardians are also reminded to ensure children do not attempt to cross flooded roads, creeks, or rivers, to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, to closely supervise children, and to continue monitoring official weather updates and advisories.

Heads of schools are advised to remain in close communication with their management committees and district education offices and to assess school grounds and facilities before resuming normal operations.

The Ministry says the safety and welfare of students, teachers and families remain the their highest priority.

The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary.
