Police and LTA officers begin Litter Enforcement Training
Efforts to strengthen enforcement against littering is underway, as Police and Land Transport Authority officers begin specialised training aimed at curbing illegal dumping.

Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael says the three-year campaign, launched last year, focuses on five key components, including behavioural change and enforcement.

He says 287 officers have already been trained across government where last week, 43 police and LTA officers completed training, while a further 36 officers from the Central Division began training today.

Dr Michael says training will continue across divisions to ensure officers have the necessary enforcement tools to issue fines for irresponsible littering, adding each officer will be issued with a litter book, identification cards and enforcement boots, ensuring they are fully equipped to carry out their duties.

Dr Michael clarifies that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, particularly the Department of Environment, is a regulatory body, and all development activities must undergo an Environmental Impact Assessment screening process.
