Over 80 women screened for cervical cancer in 2 days

Over 80 women were screened for cervical cancer in just two days at the Fiji Cancer Society’s Clinic Hub located at 233 Waimanu Road.

Fiji Cancer Society CEO Belinda Chan says it was encouraging to see so many women coming in to get tested.

Chan says the turnaround time for results is between six to eight weeks.

The CEO says that on the first day, they requested an extra nurse due to the high number of women attending the screening.

Cervical cancer is one of the cancers that can be eliminated.

Chan urges sexually active women to attend clinics for testing and, if results are normal, to be tested again after five years.

Another method of screening is HPV self-testing, a simple and private way for women to check for the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer.


Chan adds that they are working with their team in the Western Division to determine when they can set up clinics there as well.
