Concerns have been raised over biker safety after a video showed a taxi driver tailgating a motorcyclist and nearly causing an accident.
Executive member of the Fiji Motorcyclists Association, Taslim Shah stresses the incident occurred despite the motorcyclist maintaining a normal speed and giving proper indications.
Shah stressed that public service drivers must be more vigilant, especially when carrying passengers, as their actions not only risk the lives of passengers but also of the bikers
He highlighted that bikers are more exposed on the roads, even when wearing protective gear, and that incidents like these could easily result in serious injuries.
He further claims that many motorcyclists face similar situations daily but often lack video evidence to report these cases, adding that in this instance, the rider had a 360-degree camera, allowing the footage to be shared and brought to public attention.

He emphasises that motorcyclists pay the same road-related costs as other vehicle users and deserve equal respect and recognition on the roads.
The Association is urging drivers to practise better road courtesy and to remember that motorcyclists also have the right to safely share the road.
Shah is now calling on the Fiji Police Force and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to take stricter action against reckless drivers, warning that such behaviour could lead to major accidents.
Questions have been sent to the Police and the LTA, and they are yet to respond.
