The FIJI Water Flying Fijians will look to unleash their dangerous broken-play and offloading game against a rebuilding Wales side when they kick off their Nations Championship campaign in Cardiff tomorrow.

In an unusual twist, Fiji will be the home side when they take on Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Wales are going through a rebuilding phase under coach Steve Tandy after a difficult season, but they will know the Flying Fijians can punish any mistakes, especially from loose kicks and broken play.

Fiji are at their most dangerous when the game opens up, with their ability to move the ball quickly, attack the wider channels and keep play alive through offloads.

Wales are expected to use a disciplined and low-risk kicking game to try to stop Fiji from launching dangerous counterattacks.

However, if Wales kick loosely into open space without a strong and connected chase line, the Flying Fijians could quickly expose them out wide.

Wales are also expected to avoid committing too many defenders around central breakdowns, as this could create space for Fiji on the edges.

Their defensive plan could instead focus on forcing Fiji into tighter areas in the middle of the field, where double tackles could be used to limit the Flying Fijians’ offloading game.

The opening round of the inaugural Nations Championship will also feature several major clashes, with New Zealand facing France, South Africa taking on England, Australia meeting Ireland, Argentina playing Scotland, and Japan hosting Italy.

Every match will count towards the Nations Championship standings as teams begin their push towards the Finals Weekend at Allianz Stadium in London in November.

Fiji has beaten Wales twice with the most recent in Cardiff in November 2024, 24-19.

The Flying Fijians play Wales at 1.10am tomorrow.

In other games, the All Blacks will face France at 7.10pm today, Japan will meet Italy at 8.40 tonight, the Wallabies take on Ireland at 10.40 tonight, the Springboks play England at 3.40am tomorrow, while Argentina will meet Scotland at 7.10am.
