As the new year begins, many Fijians are taking the opportunity to reflect on the challenges of 2025 while setting their sights on new goals for 2026.

From personal aspirations to calls for greater community responsibility, many are determined to make the most of the year ahead and contribute to the country’s growth.

For 22-year-old Alesi Naturi, the arrival of 2026 marks a fresh start towards achieving her educational goals.

Naturi works at MHCC, using her earnings to save up for her school fees as she prepares to begin her studies at the University of the South Pacific (USP) as a first-year student.

She says she is excited to start her studies at USP, as she believe education is the key to building a better future for herself.

Reflecting on 2025, Naturi expressed gratitude for getting through a year filled with challenges such as an increase in crime, road accidents, and loss of life.

She says she is determined to focus on love, unity, and faith, calling on her peers to embrace these values.

Meanwhile, Abhay Nand, Director of Super Drug Pharmacy, has stressed the importance of prioritising health in the new year.

Nand, who is also a long-time advocate for youth development, highlighted the growing health concerns in Fiji, especially with rising early deaths.

He is urging Fijians to take personal responsibility for their well-being.

He also pointed to drug use among young people as a significant concern, and is encouraging youth to get involved in positive organisations, such as the Fiji Scouts.

By joining such groups, Nand believes young people can stay out of trouble, build lasting friendships, and contribute positively to their communities.
