Fiji acknowledges receiving advance notice from China on South Pacific missile test
The Fijian Government has acknowledged the advance notification from China regarding military activity.

Fiji's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade confirms China notified the Ministry regarding its military training activity which was conducted yesterday in the Pacific region.

China’s navy test-launched a long-range ballistic missile yesterday from one of its nuclear-powered submarines in the South Pacific.

The missile carried a dummy warhead, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry says the notification advised that the activity was part of a scheduled military training exercise and assured Fiji that the operation was not directed at any country in the Pacific and posed no security threat to the region.

The Ministry says Fiji remains firmly committed to the vision of the Pacific as an Ocean of Peace, where dialogue, transparency, mutual respect, and adherence to international law underpin regional security and prosperity.

They say Fiji reaffirms its support for the Raratoga Treaty and respects any development cooperation in the Pacific Region.

The Ministry adds that it will continue to engage constructively with all partners to advance Fiji's foreign policy priorities and support a peaceful, stable and secure Blue Pacific region.
