FICAC lawyer Rusiate Doidoi has informed the court that they are still investigating the electronic devices of Fijian and British national Charlie Charters.
Doidoi says that now that they have identified the evidence, they seek further time to review it with the relevant applications.
He says investigators have been able to extract information for the first charge, but they need more time for further investigation.
Charters' counsel Seforan Fatiaki has raised concerns that evidence crystallises when a person is charged; however, FICAC is saying that they are still investigating.
He says FICAC is again saying they are investigating when they had already investigated and charged.
Fatiaki has asked FICAC to provide an affidavit with the information Doidoi has provided in court so that he can respond to their request for more time.
Suva Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne has given FICAC until Thursday to file a supplementary affidavit on the status of the investigation and why they need to keep the electronic devices for longer.
He says if Charters still wants it, they can make applications.
Charters is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting under the Crimes Act by FICAC and is currently on bail.
It is alleged that between 2nd November and 14th December 2025, Charters intentionally aided and abetted a FICAC official to commit an offence under section 13G(1) of the FICAC Act 2007, namely the publication of official information relating to the functions of the Commission without the written permission of the Commissioner, by posting that official information on his facebook account known as “Charlie Charters”.
It is also alleged that on 2nd February 2026, Charters intentionally aided and abetted a FICAC official to commit an offence under section 13G (1) of the FICAC Act 2007, namely the publication of official information relating to the functions of the Commission without the written permission of the Commissioner, by posting that official information on the same facebook account.
