Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has been named England's vice-captain ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
England coach Thomas Tuchel confirms Rice's role following Saturday's friendly win over New Zealand, saying the midfielder would serve as deputy to captain Harry Kane.
The 27-year-old has earned 72 caps for England and is expected to be one of the team's most experienced players at the tournament.
Rice recently helped Arsenal win the Premier League title for the first time since the 2003/04 season and also played a key role in the club's run to the UEFA Champions League final.
Tuchel reveals he informed Rice of the leadership role earlier this year when the midfielder captained England during a friendly against Wales in Kane's absence.
Rice has now joined England's training camp in the United States alongside Arsenal teammates Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze as preparations continue for the World Cup.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17 and will also face Ghana and Panama in Group L.
