The Fijian Drua have appointed former All Blacks Brad Mooar as Head Coach of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua ahead of the 2027 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

Mooar has signed a two-year contract and will officially begin his role in September this year to prepare the team for the 2027 season.

The championship-winning Crusaders coach and former All Blacks and Scotland assistant coach was selected following an extensive global recruitment process involving Fijian Drua and Fiji Rugby leadership, along with an independent expert.

The Drua say Mooar impressed the selection panel with his vision of combining Fiji's exciting style of rugby with the discipline, consistency and physicality needed to compete successfully in Super Rugby Pacific.

Mooar is currently an assistant coach with the Crusaders, having returned to the franchise for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

During his previous stint with the Crusaders from 2016 to 2019, he helped guide the side to three consecutive Super Rugby titles.

He also served as Head Coach of Welsh club Scarlets before joining the All Blacks as backs and attack coach and later worked with Scotland during the 2023 Six Nations Championship and Rugby World Cup.

Fijian Drua Chief Executive Officer Jeff Miller says Mooar stood out during an exceptionally competitive recruitment process because of his technical and tactical knowledge, experience in championship-winning environments, ability to develop players and build strong relationships.

Miller says Mooar also understands the Drua's purpose extends beyond winning matches, with the club aiming to inspire the nation and create positive change through rugby.

Mooar says it is a tremendous honour to lead Fiji's Super Rugby Pacific team and he is excited to work with Fijian players and become part of the Drua family.

He says there is enormous potential to build a successful and entertaining style of rugby that will inspire the country while competing for championships.

Mooar also congratulated the McDonald's Fijian Drua Women after they finished as minor premiers and secured a home Super Rugby Women's Grand Final, praising the players and coaching staff for their historic achievement.

The Fijian Drua say further announcements regarding the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Men's coaching group will be made in due course.
