Students in Natewa in Cakaudrove, Vanua Levu will no longer have to travel long distances for secondary education after the opening of Naweni Secondary School.

While speaking at the opening, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro the establishment of the school is a major milestone for the people of Naweni District and the wider Natewa Peninsula.

Radrodro says the school will serve students from 11 feeder villages of Navonu, Nakobo, Drekeniwai, Bagasau, Nanuca, Kasavu, Vunilagi, Tacilevu, Naweni, Dromoninuku, and Viani, providing a vital secondary education pathway closer to home.

He says the establishment of the school directly addresses long-standing challenges faced by students who previously travelled long distances to access secondary education, contributing to student fatigue and dropouts.

The Minister also reiterated Government’s support for families through the $200 Back-to-School Assistance and the eTransport Card, easing financial pressures and ensuring students can attend school consistently.

Radrodro is encouraging students to value the opportunities provided and for the teachers to continue their commitment to shaping young minds.

He also urged communities to safeguard the school as an investment in their future.

Radrodro reaffirmed that the establishment of Naweni Secondary School reflects Government’s deliberate investment in access, equity, and continuity in education, ensuring every child has a fair chance to succeed.
