Fiji’s Parliament will host the Women’s Mock Parliament by the end of July this year.

Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu has announced the Secretariat is working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Fiji Parliament Support Project to ensure the successful implementation of this project.

While reacting to the Speaker’s announcement, Assistant for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran says the preparation process for the Women’s Mock Parliament has started and she hopes women from all walks of life will apply and come to experience the parliament.

Kiran says they will experience how the House makes laws for Fiji, which may encourage women to stand for the upcoming municipal elections and later for the national elections.

She says for the past year, she has been working with other women leaders to encourage women in politics while there are many barriers identified, one of them being fear of the unknown.

The Assistant Minister adds that this will provide a good insight and exciting times ahead.

The theme for the Mock Parliament is “Women in Leadership”.
