Many stories are now emerging on the difficulties that the people diagnosed with cancer are facing; the struggles, the fight to survive, the will to stay strong and the reason to accept the realities of life.

Many who have started coming forward to make donations say the stories of fellow citizens have touched their hearts and brought tears to their eyes.

A wheelchair bound man Peni Dobui came with his 22 year old cousin, Bogi Silatolu yesterday.

They are from Nasigatoka village in Rewa and Bogi was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2008.

In an emotional interview, Dobui said they came all the way from Rewa after hearing about the reports on the Walk On Walk Strong campaign.

Dobui said it has been hard for Bogi Silatolu as he only went to primary school for a few years, then his parents split up and in 2008 he was told that he has cancer.

He said the difficulties continue as the cancer has come back after two years of chemotherapy.

Dobui who lost both his legs in an accident in 1990 said he stays strong for his cousin Bogi everyday and gives him hope that everything will work out well for them.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Bogi Silatolu said he is thankful to be diagnosed with this sickness, so that he can learn the lessons of life.

Bogi said he now relies on God’s will.

He has been sick for the past five years and said he is grateful to the students and everyone in the country who are now stepping up to help those living with cancer.

Bogi’s cousin, Dobui said he will also do his bit and join the Walk On Walk Strong Nausori to Suva Street Appeal on his wheelchair on Saturday.
