Way Forward is Not through Charter-NFP

The National Federation Party said the way forward for the country is not through a People's Charter process driven by a foreign consultant.

Pramod Rae while speaking at the Elections Public Forum organized by the Pacific Concerns Resource Centre and Pacific Centre for Public Integrity at Suva's Holiday Inn hit out at the Interim Prime Minister for lamenting the non participation of some organizations in the process.

Rae said Bainimarama sees their criticisms and observations as an attempt to derail the process. He said the way forward is only through full unconditional participation of all major political groups in the country and not a charter Council.

He said Bainimarama makes it conditional to say come and participate in the Charter Council each time he laments the non-participation of organizations. According to Rae, the day Bainimarama abandons that approach and convinces an unconditional dialogue involving the key stakeholders that would probably bring about solution to political problems in the country.

Meanwhile he said the interim government should honor its commitment to hold elections as promised next year.
