Water turbidity at the main sources care causing water cuts in Lami, Samabula and Tamavua - WAF

The ongoing water cuts are due to persistent adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall, which have caused flooding and extremely high raw water turbidity at the main sources for the Tamavua system and the Waimanu raw water pumping station and Head-works three.

This has been highlighted by the Water Authority of Fiji as thousands of residents are still without water in affected areas in Lami, Tamavua, Tacirua and Samabula.

WAF says these conditions are affecting the treatment process and water production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

They say the prolonged nature of these events has further impacted water production and reservoir levels, leading to extended water disruptions.

Residents from Lami Village contacted fijivillage News voicing their frustrations because there was no warning from the Water Authority of Fiji and to make matters worse there is no truck to deliver water for the second day now. Lami Village resident Apakuki Duri says its a constant struggle for a big family like his because he is living with his extended family and water is a need for them and the hundreds of people in the village.

Duri says they have called WAF and they are still waiting and hoping for water to be restored.

Many people are saying they are tired getting the same old reason of turbidity issues.

They are asking what is being done to fix the problem as this remains an issue for years.

WAF says to address the ongoing issue they are actively working on optimizing the treatment processes, investing in treatment plant upgrades, and implementing improvements at the pump station to progressively enhance system resilience and capacity.

They say they are working diligently to address these issues and improve their service delivery.
