There is good news as the Waiqele Airport in Labasa will finally have night landing facilities by the end of this year and Fiji Link airfare from Suva to Labasa has also gone down.

This was confirmed by Minister of Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the groundbreaking ceremony for runaway lights at Waiqele Airport last night.

Sayed-Khaiyum says night landing facility also means that there will be more frequency of flights adding if the flight is delayed due to bad weather, people still can travel to Suva during night time.

The Minister for Economy says it will be a great opportunity for Northern Air and Fiji Link to reschedule their flights.

Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted that those that constructed the Waiqele Airport did not plan for the future.

Chairman of the Airports Fiji Limited Faiz Khan says work on the night landing facility will be completed by the end of November.

Khan adds they will also increase the terminal size and have separate rooms for departure and arrival.

In another big announcement last night at the Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North, Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji Link flights between Suva and Labasa will get cheaper.

He says one third of the seats in all flights from Suva to Labasa will cost only $65 a seat.
