We have no Police vehicle and one Police Officer stationed at the Wailoku Police Station every night.

This is one major concern voiced by the residents of Wailoku during the National Development Plan consultation organised by the Government through the Ministry of Finance.

The residents says the Police Station resourcing continues to affect the daily operations at the station, and they hope the Government will look into their plea.

They say there has been a rise in thefts and other serious crimes in the area and the residents are pleading for more manpower from the relevant authorities.

The residents reiterate that having one Police officer and no vehicle assigned to their area is very bad because the officer in charge cannot leave the station as they are alone.

Another concern raised during the consultation was the disposal of solid waste, where residents voiced their frustrations, saying that they only have one yellow bin, and when the bin is full, rubbish is disposed everywhere and in the creeks.

Ministry of Finance Senior Economist Kamal Gounder says upon further consultations with the residents in Wailoku, it was sad and alarming to hear of stories of elders being victimised and bullied in the area.

Gounder adds that they will consider the plea of the residents of Wailoku and work towards a way they can help the community.
