A form five student of Lautoka who won the first prize in a National Essay competition said such competitions are necessary to bring about unity and understanding amongst the people of Fiji.
The competition was organized by Citizens Constitutional Forum on the theme “Promoting Multi-culturalism” and in its third year, the forum has received 184 entries from schools around the country.
Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial school student, Ruci Rokowati based her concept on the need for mutual respect and understanding for a truly diverse Fiji.
She said such competition is also a learning experience for students adding that she could not believe that she won the competition when she was informed by her form teacher.
Meanwhile CCF Chief Executive Officer Akuila Yabaki said this is an initiative to develop students understanding of good citizenship in a multiracial Fiji and encourage young people to develop a sense of respect for others.
