Fijiana overcomes Great Britain 19-14 in first pool game

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team kicked-off their Hamilton 7s campaign with a 19-14 win over Great Britain.

Fijiana started the game well with an unconverted try to Ana Maria Naimasi to give them an early 5-0 lead.

Great Britain’s Heather Cowell replied a minute later with a converted try to take the lead before Lavena Cavuru scored 2 minutes later to regain the lead 12-7.

Grace Crompton scored after the half time hooter to give Great Britain a 14-12 lead at half time.

Adi Vani Buleki scored the winning try in the 4th minute of the second half with a successful conversion.

Cavuru was yellow carded in the 6th minute of the second spell but the Fijiana 7s team held on to win the game 19-14.

Fijiana will take on New Zealand at 2.12pm in their second game, before taking on PNG at 5.37pm.

The women’s cup quarter finals will kick-off at 8.30am tomorrow, the cup semi final will begin at 12.20pm and the cup final will be at 6.26pm tomorrow.

Meanwhile the Fiji Airways men’s national 7s team will take on Kenya at 12pm, before playing Samoa in their final pool match at 3.06 this afternoon.

The men’s cup quarter-finals will start at 9.58am tomorrow, the semi finals begin at 1.48pm and the final will be played at 6.56pm tomorrow.
