Thousands of Christians around the country are celebrating Easter Sunday today, with the main reflection on the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

At the Centenary Church in Suva, the congregation gathered in numbers to celebrate the love that God showed at Mount Calvary.

55-year-old Luke Curuvanua says Resurrection Sunday is about celebrating the love of God.

He says after their church service today, they will have their family lunch at their grandparents home, where all their other relatives will be attending.

Curuvanua says for the past two years, they have been celebrating Easter and Christmas by themselves, but today, they will celebrate with family and friends.

He adds the safety of their children are paramount this long weekend which is why they have planned out a family weekend.

Curuvanua is also urging Fijians to assist those that are in need during these trying times.

Meanwhile, Jubilee Sunday School teacher Asilini Soqo says they held a camp for the children for this holy day to enlighten them on the true meaning of Easter.

She says children from classes 1 to 3 as well as senior classes in secondary school attended the camp.

Soqo says the children loved the camp activities and got to know each other more.

She adds after their church service, they have prepared a small spread for the children before they go back to their homes.
