Today thousands around the country set aside time to make this a very special day for their mothers.
Mothers Day which is celebrated every second Sunday in May, was born from an idea that originated on May 12, 1907 when Anna Jarvis of West Virginia, held a memorial, for her mother two years after her death and thereafter embarked upon a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday.
One mother who not only made a name for herself in her career but is also a mother said that being a mother as the most important role that she will ever play.
Taufa Vakatale who acted as Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1994, and Deputy Prime Minister from 1997 99, said that today is a celebration for all mothers.
She added she admires mothers these days as they are faced with a lot more problems.
Meanwhile, Acting General Secretary of the Methodist Church of Fiji, Reverend Tevita Nawadra said it is important for us to understand that they have not only contribute to the lives of their individual families but also they have made a lot of difference in making our society a better and enjoyable place.
Nawadra added for those who are unfortunate that they have lost their mothers, they should always remember that God is there for them.
