There is no available vaccine to cure CHIK virus – MOH

There is no vaccine available to cure Chikungunya or CHIK virus.

The Ministry of Health says the only way to prevent this is to avoid mosquito bites and take necessary precautions.

According to the Ministry, there have been three confirmed cases of Chikungunya in Fiji so far.

There was an imported case while the other two locals are currently receiving medications.

In the first case the foreigner from Kiribati received some medications and has returned to his country.

The Ministry of Health says Chikungunya is similar to Dengue fever but the effect caused from it may persist for months or even a year.

They are monitoring the situation and will prevent people who are traveling from high risk areas from entering the country.

The Ministry of Health is urging people to take medication, drink plenty of fluids and visit the nearest health facility if any symptoms such as fever , joint pain or swelling, with or without muscle pain, headache, vomiting, and red eyes persist.
