Team Fiji bags 3 more gold medals

Team Fiji won three more gold medals last night in the Pacific Games however Fiji has slipped on the medal tally to fourth position with 27 gold, 33 silver and 35 bronze medals.

Leslie Copeland won gold in the Mens Javelin throw while two other gold medals came from Judo.

Vani Kelekeleivalu won gold in the Womens 63kg event while Sisilia Rasokisoki also won gold in the Womens 78kg event.

Four more gold medals are at stake in Judo today in the Mens and Womens open and team events starting at 11am. 

Fiji failed to win any gold medals on the tracks last night as Ratu Tira Narara settled for silver in the Mens 400 meters final behind Papua New Guinea's Nelson Stone.

In the Womens 400 meters final, Miriama Senokonoko also settled for silver medal behind Papua New Guineas Toea Wisil.

Meanwhile, the 2011 Pacific Games fastest man, Banuve Tabakaucoro has booked a spot in the 200 meters final at 8.10 tonight after coming in home first in his heat with a time of 22.32 seconds.

Tabakaucoro's time is the 3rd fastest coming into the final with fellow athlete Isikeli Rokowaqa clocking the fastest time of 22.12 seconds while PNG's Nelson Stone clocked a time of 22.14 seconds.
 
In the Womens division, PNG's, Toea Wisil is again favorite with a time of 25.12 seconds in her heat.

Fiji's Paulini Korowaqa and Sisilia Seavula are also in the 200 meters final today at 6.50pm.

Four gold medals are at stake in the Mens Archery competition with Robert Elder, George Fong and Kavitesh Sharma to feature in the quarter-finals from 4 this afternoon.

Power lifting can also provide close to four gold medals today with Mozima Hussain, Sainimere Abariga, Suliana Kolitagane, Ana Garnett, Elesi Ikanidrodro and Helen Pahulu all in the finals.

Power-lifting starts at 3 this afternoon.

Our mens Basketball team will play in the Bronze medal playoffs against Tahiti at 4pm while our Womens Basketball team will also play against Samoa in the bronze medal playoffs at 2pm.

Meanwhile, yesterday the Fiji soccer team's chances of reaching the final was denied by the Solomon Islands side which beat them 2-1 in extra time.

Looking at the medal tally, New Caledonia is first with 93 gold, 76 silver and 39 bronze medals, Tahiti is second with 45 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze while Papua New Guinea has claimed the third spot with 30 gold, 17 silver and 41 bronze medals.
