Take precaution at traffic lights - Police

Motorists should ensure that their vehicles are locked and windows are up when they are driving or parked at the traffic lights after reports in relation to some vehicles being targeted by a group of people at the traffic lights in different parts of Suva.

Some people said they have been victims of this after people forcefully get into the cars when the vehicles are waiting at the traffic lights.

These people then take the valuable items in the car and rush out again before the cars move again.

One of the drivers told Fijivillage that he stopped at the traffic lights on Ratu Mara Road at about 7pm on April 20th, and a person opened the front passenger door, got in, threatened to punch the driver, and got away with an i-phone.

The driver could not do anything as the traffic light had turned green and he had to move due to the lineup of vehicles behind him.

He confirmed that he filed the complaint at the Samabula Police Station on the same night.

Police Director Operations Rusiate Tudravu confirmed that investigations are underway in relation to this incident.

He also revealed that they have received reports in relation to some sex workers stopping vehicles and then luring the drivers to places where they are robbed.
