To provide shipping services more efficiently the China Navigation Company, which is the parent company of Swire Shipping has opened its new office in Suva.
90 people are currently employed with the company in the country.
While speaking at the launch of the Suva branch at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night, Managing Director James Woodrow says that they have the right people in their offices at Lautoka and Suva to look after their customers.
He says since Fiji is the heart of the Pacific they are excited to have their business in the country.
Woodrow also stresses that they have spent more than USD$1 billion to build 41 fuel efficient ships over the last four years to transport goods efficiently to and from Fiji.
He stresses that each ship has the capacity to transport 2,000 containers.
Meanwhile Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Shaheen Ali says that a number of reforms have been made to address issues pertaining to trade facilitation in general and also port efficiency.
Ali says that the Fijian Government will continue to provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
He adds that they hope to see that the company expands its business in Fiji and the region.
