Suspended teacher gets acquitted of charges relating to being in possession of meth
26-year-old Waseem Zafar Khan

The Suva Magistrates Court has dismissed the charges against a suspended school teacher who was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine as the Police Prosecution failed to produce any evidence against him.

26 year old Waseem Zafar Khan was charged with two counts of possession of illicit drugs.

He was allegedly found with 0.918 grams of methamphetamine and 5.5 grams of marijuana on the 4th of January this year in Raiwaqa.

Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara had asked the Police Prosecutor if the witnesses were present in court for the hearing.

The prosecutor then excused himself from the court to call the witnesses however, the witnesses were not present.

Khan's lawyer, Jiten Reddy had asked the court to acquit his client as Police failed to produce any evidence or witnesses and it must therefore be assumed that the prosecution had closed the matter and the case must be dismissed.
