A specialized team from India has arrived in Fiji to assist with the restoration of power supply to areas affected by Cyclone Winston and assess Fiji’s long‑term energy needs.
The team from India will work closely with the Fiji Electricity Authority and the National Disaster Management Office to identify a mix of cost effective renewable energy sources most suited to Fiji’s environment and climate.
The team will then report back to the Indian Government on where to target future assistance to Fiji’s energy sector.
Attorney General and Finance Minister Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum said they are deeply grateful for India’s support in addressing the long‑term challenges faced by Fiji’s energy sector.
The team was deployed following a meeting last month between Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum, and India’s Minister of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Shri Piyus Goyal.
