The newly constructed public convenience in Samabula

The Suva City Council is deeply concerned with the gross abuse and vandalism of the newly constructed public convenience in Samabula.

The Council has noted that some people have damaged light fittings, toilet seats and other things inside the public convenience.

Some taxi drivers whose taxi base is next to the Samabula public convenience have also raised concern that some people are even stealing toilet paper from the new facility.

The Council is urging people to become responsible in ensuring they care for this new modern facility which is also accessible to people with disabilities.

Meanwhile, some people have raised concern as to why the Samabula public convenience which is located opposite the Post Office closes after 4pm.

They say that expecting mothers who wait for the hospital bus, taxi drivers and other commuters do not have any other place to go to when the public convenience closes after 4pm.

When questioned, the Suva City Council says they want taxi operators in Samabula to take some responsibility in manning the public convenience after 4.30pm.

The Council says they expect to work out a mutual time-frame with the taxi operators for the opening and closing time of the public convenience in Samabula.
