As day two of the Paris 7s looms, the 16 participating teams showed a different level of pace and strength in the opening day this morning.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team started well by defeating Scotland 38-12 while Pacific rival Samoa thrashed Wales 52-10.

Coach Ben Ryan witnessed the brilliance of Josua Tuisova and Samisoni Viriviri on the wing while Leone Nakarawa and Waisea Nayacalevu contributed heavily on most phases of play against Scotland.

Ryan says that Wales will be tough and they will take one game at a time.

He says that the new players made an instant impact and will now sharpen some of their skills and fitness over the next couple of months.

The national side scored six tries to two to outclass the Scottish side.

Fiji was leading 21-5 at halftime.

Meanwhile, in other matches this morning, Kenya came from behind in the second half to beat Portugal 29-14, New Zealand defeated Russia 35-10, Samoa thrashed Wales 52-10, Argentina also thrashed USA 36-0, France beat Canada 42-5 while South Africa defeated England 24-5.

Fiji will now take on Wales at 9.14pm tonight and then face Samoa in our last pool match at 12.47am tomorrow morning.

The Paris 7s Cup quarterfinals will start at 9.13pm tomorrow, the Cup semifinals will start at 1.03am Monday while the Cup Final will kick off at 4.15am Monday.
