The newly developed Great Council of Chiefs complex will be opened by the Marama Bale na Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa this afternoon.
The complex was destroyed in a fire in 2019, and the analysis revealed that the cause of the fire was a lit mosquito coil.
GCC Chair Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says the redevelopment of the Vale ni Bose is more than a physical transformation — it is the restoration of a space deeply rooted in the fabric of our identity as iTaukei and as Fijians.
He says it is at the complex area that our chiefs once gathered to deliberate on matters of national interest, and it is there that they will continue to uphold their cultural values and chart a path forward.
Ratu Viliame says the refurbished complex has been thoughtfully designed to reflect traditional Fijian architecture while incorporating modern functionality to host highest forums forums, and GCC gatherings.
He adds as part of a broader initiative to revitalise the GCC Complex, the Vale ni Bose will also serve as a platform for leadership development, intergenerational dialogue, and cultural preservation.
The Chair says they reaffirm their commitment to supporting iTaukei institutions, safeguarding cultural heritage, and investing in spaces that promote unity, leadership, and development.
After the opening of the GCC Complex, the GCC members will hold a two-day meeting at the newly developed complex. The traditional ceremony will be presented by members of the Ministry for iTaukei Affairs and the members of Natauvakarua clan of Kalokolevu.
Attending the opening ceremony is former President and Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Aviation Viliame Gavoka, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Corporatives, Trade and SMEs Manoa Kamikamica, RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, members of Cabinet, GCC members, foreign diplomats and members of the public.
