Resource centre for children with cancer to be setup soon
Part of the dream of 15-year-old Tae Kami who died of cancer will be realized this year as the first ever Resource Centre to provide for the children living with cancer and their parents will be set up in Suva soon.

Many parents who have to stay in Suva for months due to the continuing treatment of their child will now have the centre which can look after the needs of the child and their parents as they may be away from home for months without any source of funds.

Tae’s mother and founder of the Walk On Walk Strong campaign, Sina Kami said Hilton Special School has provided part of their building space for the WOWS committee to set up a resource centre after hearing about the worthy cause.

The needs of the children and their parents are also being identified and they too will soon be assisted through the donations received.

This is also being made possible through the contributions of the listeners of Legend FM, FM96, Navtarang, Radio Sargam and Viti FM.

We today presented the cheque of $223,169.35 to Sina Kami on behalf of all the people who donated during the stations’ nation-wide appeal.

Sina who started the campaign with the name of the song her 15 year old daughter, Tae wrote and sang while battling cancer, was in tears when she was presented the cheque.

During the presentation, Sina read out a letter from her daughter’s diary before she passed away in 2008.

Sina Kami said she would like to thank everyone in Fiji for giving towards this cause.

Meanwhile, Communications Fiji Limited General Manager Ian Jackson said it is so heartwarming to see the people backing this cause to assist the children living with cancer and their families.

About 40 to 45 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in Fiji. Most of these children come from the poorest of the poor in the country and they need assistance.
