Prof. Ahluwalia to finish off VC and President of USP effective 1st September 2025

Professor Pal Ahluwalia

Professor Pal Ahluwalia will conclude his tenure as Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of the South Pacific effective 1st September 2025.

USP Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Siosiua ‘Utoikamanu says Professor Ahluwalia was appointed in 2019 and with the support of the University’s management team, staff, and students, has led USP through a period of significant challenges, including the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The USP Council Chair says during this time, the University maintained continuity of teaching and research and retained its staff despite significant financial and operational pressures.

The USP says a cornerstone of Professor Ahluwalia’s tenure was the successful reaffirmation of accreditation by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).

It says this rigorous process validated the quality of USP’s academic programmes, ensuring that students continue to receive education recognised globally.

The Council will shortly commence the process for appointing a new Vice-Chancellor and President, with further updates to be communicated in due course.

Interim management arrangements will be put in place to ensure a smooth transition and the continued effective operation of the University.
